Shanghai hosts World Expo 2010

For 184 days next year, Shanghai will inspire the world and create Exposition history as it hosts the World Expo.
Since 1851 when the Great Exhibition of industries of all nations was held in London, the World Expositions have attained increasing prominence as grand events for economic, scientific, technological and cultural exchanges.
“The Shanghai Expo 2010 is an important opportunity to promote the city. At the same time, it is also a chance for us to entice tourists into the country specifically Filipinos,” said Connie Cheng, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration.
“Currently, we are receiving 100,000 Filipino tourists into Shanghai and we hope to improve the number next year through the World Expo. The event will also provide a chance to improve our tourism exchange with the Philippines as both countries can greatly benefit in the said event,” added Cheng.
China owes its successful bid to host the World Exposition in 2010 to the international community’s support and confidence. It will also be the first registered World Exposition in a developing country. “As the first developing country to host the World Expo, China can serve as an inspiration to other developing countries such as the Philippines and its neighbors. Each country can exchange thoughts, ideas and gear toward future development” Cheng said.
Expo 2010 Shanghai China will explore the full potential of urban life in the 21st century and the significant periods in urban evolution. Starting May 1, 2010 participants will display urban civilization to its full extent, exchange vast experiences in urban development, disseminate advanced notions on cities and explore new approaches to human habitat, lifestyle and working conditions in the new century.
Some 70 million visitors are expected to attend the Shanghai 2010 Expo. It will be the first Expo wherein 185 nations and 46 Global NGOs will be represented in what is believed to be a historical and geopolitical landmark.
