It was a friendly suggestion from a relative that prompted businessman Eric Fariñas to invest in a hotel back in 2005. His nephew, Michael V. Fariñas (the current mayor of Laoag City) told him that it would be nice if Laoag City could add to its roster of hotels a place not only fit for discerning businessmen and tourists but also one that fits global standards.

It sparked Eric’s interest and two things sealed the deal: his inclination for the construction business, and the budding tourism market he personally observed to be booming. He gave it a shot and gathered a team of professionals. Two and a half years later, Java Hotel was born in 2007.

Unlike most hotels that are situated in Laoag City’s main town proper, Eric chose to deviate from the norm and built his hotel on a spacious vacant lot adjacent to an existing gasoline station along the national highway. The area is just a mere five to 10 minutes away from the town.  The reason for this, he said, is decongestion. He added that the town proper is already congested and that other factors also have to be considered such as parking and noise, among others.

The result is a hotel nestled conveniently in the city while providing a relaxing respite for travelers. Visitors and guests may park their cars at the roomy parking area with valet service.

Java Hotel earned praises for its Balinese Moroccan atmosphere combined with Spanish design and enhanced with the warm Ilocano way of service. Guests, upon check-in, are encouraged to take a dip in the swimming pool, stay trim at the fitness gym, or practice their sports skills at the hotel’s tennis and basketball courts. Urbanites who need to stay online while on vacation may take advantage of the free WiFi service in the hotel. Group events may also be staged in the different function halls.

The hotel has 50 rooms designed to fit any crowd, couple, or even singles. Food aficionados may also get their delectable fill of Japanese, American, and Filipino dishes at the Eagle’s Nest Bar and Restaurant.

Tour and event packages may also be arranged with the management.

According to Eric, who now also acts as the hotel’s General Manager, the Java Hotel is now rated as four-star but still offers reasonable rates.
