"If I can have the time, I can lecture to you about one hour and you would know everything that is needed to know kaya lang wala akong panahon ," Duterte said during the 35th founding anniversary of the Army Reserve Command in Tanza, Cavite on Thursday. "But someday you might want to invite me and pagka one Sunday mag-attend kayong lahat. Dalawa lang ‘yang discussion ko diyan, pati ‘yung related laws ," he said. Duterte said the cops need only to memorize the lecture on criminal law to improve their performance of duty. "Memorizin (memorize) mo lang ‘yan, pwede ka ng sundalo, pwede ka ng pulis. Wala kang problema. Alam mo na kung ano ," he said. The President reminded the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) against committing any abuse in the government's anti-crime campaign. He also promised anew to support the policemen who might face legal trouble in the performance of their duty "Just perform your duty, you do not have to worry. I will be there to back you up,” said Duterte. "Police, do your duty. Wala lang abuso . Do not abuse. Learn the law, simple man lang ‘yan ," he added. The President previously disclosed that he taught cadets at the Davao Region's police academy to augment his income when he was still a struggling lawyer several years ago. Duterte, a former state prosecutor before becoming a Davao City mayor, handled the subjects of criminal law, criminal evidence and criminal procedure. Duterte, in his speech back in September 2017 before public attorneys, explained that policemen were allowed to kill suspects who resist arrest and put their lives in danger. "You must be in the performance of duty and the only way you can kill another person is that it must be in self-defense or that your life is in jeopardy. You're about not only to lose your pants but your life,” he said. "He is required to overcome any resistance and to use force commensurate, but he has to take this guy in custody. Place him under the custody of the law, of government, you can bring him to the court, issuing the warrant, or the police station for record purposes," he added.
