Shakey’s GVL enters groups final phase

University of Santo Tomas, San Antonio de Padua, and multi-titled Hope Christian High School hammered out huge wins last weekend to barge into the Group A final phase of the Shakey’s GVL Season 6.

The UST spikers downed Colegio San Agustin, 25-14, 12-25, 25-11, while the Laguna-based San Antonio Vi toppled Angeles University Foundation, 25-16, 25-23, and Hope Christian downed Miriam College, 25-13, 25-23.

The three contenders will play sudden death matches with the team that loses twice takes third place and the top two teams will fight for the group championship in this league supported by Toby’s Sports, Mikasa, Asics and Mighty Sports.

In the semifinals of Group B, University of the Philippines Integrated School was to play against Angelicum College and Imus Institute versus St. James Academy.

The winners will play for the group title today at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Meanwhile, Pajo National High School bested Southern Philippines Foundation, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21, to capture the Shakey’s GVL-Cebu leg.

PNHS banked on Catherine Marquez and sisters Athena and Christy Sucalit who combined for 27 points to help their school earn the right to represent Cebu in the Tournament of Champions in Cebu scheduled on November 19 at the USPF Gym.
