Aetas set to be employed as Clark security personnel

CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga — At least 100 Aetas and residents of the Sacobia Valley here will have an opportunity to work as Clark Freeport Next Frontier’s security force and for business gain.

The Clark Development Corporation (CDC), in its effort to provide employment and livelihood programs for indigenous people in the area, will recruit at least 88 security personnel for the Next Frontier, as well as cultural local trade, it was disclosed by CDC public relation manager Angelo “Sonnny” Lopez.

Lopez in a report to CDC president Benigno N. Ricafort, said that at least 100 Aeta’s will be accommodated as CDC Special Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit Active Auxiliary (SCAA).

Lopez recommended the project of recruitment of Aeta Security Detail for the Next Frontier of the CDC, aimed at uplifting the living condition of the native people at Sacobia Valley inside the Freeport Zone.

Ricafort explained that the SCAA is a collaboration program of the state-owned firm with the Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

The Aeta applicants and others will be scheduled this month for the special training at Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija for about 45 days.

CDC will also provide the trainees’ allowances and other legal benefit, during the training period.

CDC officials said the initial scope of SCAA personnel is “to assist and provide security to the surveying and engineering personnel to complete the land-marking of the Next Frontier Master Development Plan.”

Also, the SCAA is expected “to assist and provide security to the surveying and engineering contractors for the construction of the road infrastructure that will be funded with the advance rental payments of the Next Frontier investors, Ricafort added.

Earlier, the CDC has trained 21 Aetas, 18 of which have been selected as tour guides after an extensive training spearheaded by the state-run corporation, in cooperation with the Region 3 office of the Department of Tourism (DoT 3).
