San Sebastian ends UST’s win streak
Games on Friday
(The Arena, San Juan)
2 p.m. – FEU vs St. Benilde
4 p.m. – SSC vs Ateneo
6 p.m. – Adamson vs UST
San Sebastian College succeeded where other Shakey’s V-League teams failed – beat University of Santo Tomas.
With their entire offensive guns firing, the SSC lasses dashed the Tigresses’ bid for a perfect season by pulling off a shocking 25-23, 23-25, 26-24, 25-22 win late Tuesday night at The Arena in San Juan City.
The loss ended UST’s winning streak at seven while the victory boosted the defending champion’s chances for a seat in the Final Four as SSC hiked its card to 6-3 in a tie with Far Eastern University for second place.
More than improving their records, the victory allowed the SSC lasses to exact revenge over the Tigresses, who dealt them a straight-set loss six days ago.
“This is a great win for us because we’ve been playing below par in our past two games,” said SSC mentor Roger Gorayeb, whose squad also dropped a straight-set loss to Adamson last week.
Gorayeb said that the fatigue factor was the culprit for their apparently inconsistent performance so far in this conference presented by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Sports Vision.
“We never had rest since April. After seeing action in the V-League first conference, we next played in the NCAA,” s aid Gorayeb. “I hope this win will inspire us to play better as a team.”
