TD 'Samuel' maintains strength as it moves toward Dinagat Islands, Samar and Leyte

By MB Online Tropical Depression "Samuel" maintained its strength Tuesday morning, as it moved toward the area of Dinagat Islands, Samar, and Leyte, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported. (PAGASA/ MANILA BULLETIN) (PAGASA/ MANILA BULLETIN) In its 5 a.m weather bulletin, Pagasa said “Samuel” was last spotted at 420 kilometers (km) east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. "Samuel" moves at northwest at 20 kilometers per hour (kph), with maximum winds of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 65 kph. Pagasa said moderate to heavy rain may trigger flash floods and landslides in the areas of Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, and Bicol. "Samuel" is expected to make landfall in the Dinagat-Samar-Leyte area on Tuesday evening, already as a tropical storm. Meanwhile, the tropical cyclone warning signals continued to be hoisted in the following areas: TCWS#1 Masbate including Ticao Island Romblon Cuyo Island Northern Samar Eastern Samar Samar Biliran Leyte Southern Leyte Bohol Cebu Siquijor Negros Oriental Negros Occidental Guimaras Iloilo Capiz Aklan Antique Dinagat Islands Surigao del Norte Surigao del Sur Agusan del Norte Agusan del Sur Misamis Oriental Camiguin Residents of these areas, especially those living near or along river channels, low-lying and mountainous areas are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring Pagasa’s weather updates.
