Save for the segments afforded with subsidies, oil consumers in Luzon will have to brace for successive hikes in pump prices after Malacanang officially lifted Executive Order 839 or the policy that mandated freeze in oil prices.

Oil industry players proposed staggered price adjustments to bring their prices at a level that shall reflect prevailing market costs.

The Palace was reported to have lifted the price control mandate starting Monday (November 16), having seen the disastrous impact of the policy, especially the supply shortages.

As propounded, price reductions or caps would just be confined to areas badly hit by typhoons. The transport sector is batting for discounts or subsidies so they can be provided some relief as they cope with the impact of the recent calamities.
