Nonito Donaire and GMAAC visit Ilocos Sur

It seems that like Manny Pacquiao, Nonito “The Flash” Donaire also enjoys the whole-hearted support of Ilocos Sur’s impresario Manong Luis “Chavit” Singson as the latter played doting host to Donaire and company during a recent visit to his homestead in the North last month.

The former Ilocos Sur Governor, who promised to watch Nonito’s every fight in the future, very graciously lent to the group his private plane and personally welcomed Nonito upon arrival and took him to a tour of Vigan. Nonito was also immediately brought to the office of Gov. Deogracias Victor Savellano and Mayor Eva Marie Singson-Medina for a courtesy call. Both public officials are self-confessed fans of the Filipino champ. The mayor received Donaire by giving him the city’s symbolic key.

The locals of Vigan were as equally excited to see Donaire up close and personal during a short motorcade also arranged by Mr. Singson. The gracious host also treated the group to a private animal show in Baluarte Zoo featuring Mr. Singson’s collection of various imported animals such as ponies, iguana, white and brown deers, python and an orangutang. The latter was trained and even interacted with Donaire much to the delight of the group. The zoo holds regular shows for the public for free.

Food and music capped the overnight visit. The group was also feted to an outdoor casual dinner at Café Leona, where Donaire sang all night. The accommodations were fit for a King and Queen because Mr. Singson saw to it that Donaire and his wife Rachel should occupy the Bolkiah Room in his mansion, normally allotted to his VIP visitors.
