The latest ‘Song of Joseph’
The Oblates of St. Joseph and the Music Theater Foundation Philippines team up to stage “Song of Joseph” at the Meralco Theater on Nov. 17 to 20. The musical is the kick-starter of the celebration of the almost 100th year of “taking care of the interests of Jesus” in the country by the Oblates of St. Joseph (OSJ).
The OSJ Provincial Head for the Philippines Reverend Ronulfo Alconga, produces this latest musical on the often silent spouse of Mary. It veers away from the usual portrayal of Joseph as an old man by showing him as a “young, virile and handsome man,” as described by its librettist, Fides Cuyugan-Asensio who is marking her first time to write a religious musical and her 11th original musical.
“Song of Joseph’s” music was composed of husband-and-wife team, Raymond and Jeannelle Roldan, which also marks their first time to work together, and has successful musical theater performers Jon Joven, playing Joseph, and Arlynne Lupas Tecson as Mary; Miguel Aguila joins the cast portraying the teenage Jesus. It also marks Tricia Amper’s comeback to the musical stage – she will be alternating as Mary.
The “Song of Joseph” is a musical on the life, love and death of St. Joseph. It shows the humanness of a saintly man. It is a pre-Christmas musical that will surely warm our hearts. Proceeds will go to the building of the novice and elderly house project of the OSJ.

Fund raising gig
Pencil this in. Jeck Pipil and Peacepipe, Jeepney Joyride and FMD performs in a fund raising concert to raise funds for Kalapnit Neighborhood Pre School and Kalapnit Elementary School of San Luis, Aurora.
The fund raising gig, organized by the group Trails to Empower Kids of TREK, will be held on Nov. 18, 8 p.m. at the Watering Hole at the Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City.
TREK is a group of mountaineers from different organizations joined together by a common mission of helping children who live and study in remote areas.
The gig hopes to raise funds to buy school supplies and construction materials for a comfort room and a reading corner in the said school. The elementary school is one of the lowest performing schools in the province, which may be due to the schools lack of materials and inadequate facilities. TREK’s mission is scheduled on Dec. 12 and 13.
