DAVAO CITY – The country’s leading newspaper is set to stage the Davao City leg of the Manila Bulletin Sketchfest 2018 with a theme “Bayani Juan” at the SM City in Ecoland on July 28, the second since the first-ever successful event in the city last year.

Cindy Mae Dumapias, marketing officer of the Manila Bulletin-Davao Branch, said the event seeks to gather the growing community of both up-and-coming and professional artists from different parts of the Davao region.
Aside from the city, Dumapias added that an overwhelming number of students from the Sta. Cruz municipality and Digos City in Davao Del Sur; Panabo City, Tagum City, and Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte have already confirmed their participation.
As of 8 a.m. on Tuesday, MB’s online registration listed a total of 538 artists registered.
Online registration will close on Saturday, July 21, but on-site registration will be available at the opening day to cater to the walk-ins, Dumapias added.
The event has three different categories: kiddie (12 years old and below), junior (13 to 18 years old), and senior (19 years old and above).
The criteria are 40% adherence/consistency with the theme; 35% creativity and composition; and 25% originality.
Winners under the senior category will receive P30,000 for first prize, P15,000 for second prize, and P10,000 for thirdprize; junior category winners will receive P10,000(1st), P7,000 (2nd), and P5,000 (3rd); and P5,000(1st), P3,000(2nd), and P2,000 (3rd) in kiddie category.
Each winner will take home MB loot bags.
The mechanics include MB will provide the official sketching paper (30cm x45 cm) for all categories; all participants should bring their own sketching and drawing tools for dry media only and only the kiddie participants shall be provided with pencils, erasers, and crayons; artists will be given five hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to complete their artworks; and they must work on their drawings only within the designated area.
