Malacañang said that open-pit mining may be put to an end when an Executive Order (EO) will be issued regarding such.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the statement days after President Duterte reiterated his warning to miners to replace what they have mismanaged.

"Ang sinasabi po ni Presidente (The President has been saying that), he will, and he has said it before, he will soon prohibit open-pit mining," he said Thursday afternoon. "I don't know when, but I guess when the Executive Order for this is prepared," he added. According to the Palace official, Duterte has been telling miners, to resort to other forms of mining. "He has been giving them time to wind down, and giving them the opportunity to explore other alternatives," Roque said. "But he has repeatedly said that open-pit mining is unacceptable to him, for good reasons," he added.
