Japan tops Subic duathlon

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – Japan captured both the men's and women's championships to underscore its dominance in the extreme sport in the recent Asian Duathlon Championship here.

Yuya Fukaura, Japan's top ranked duathlete and 10th ranked by the International Triathlon Union (ITU), finished only fourth overall but being the top Asian finisher he was awarded the title.

Damien Derobert of France, Raohael Baugh of Australia and world No.1 Sergey Yakovlev of Russia.

Fukaura finished 1-2-3 in the event organized by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) in partnership with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Fukaura clocked 1:51.35 while Derobert posted 1:49.24 in the 10K-run, 40Kbike and 5K run. Baugh had 1:49.36.

Cagayan de Oro's 23 year old national duathlete Neil Catiil finished 5th overall in 1:53.03 to emerge as the top Filipino finisher.
