With the departure of American CJ Giles from the Smart-Gilas Developmental Team, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is looking at several former NBA players to replace him.

SBP executive director Noli Eala said at least three former NBA players are in the list -- Jamal Sampson and 7-footer Earl Barron Jr. and 6-10 Sahun Pruitt.

The SBP has already made initial contact with Sampson who stands 6-11 and is a cousin of former Houston Rockets star Ralph Sampson.

“We have started talking with his agent,” Eala said in a text message to The Bulletin yesterday.

The other day, Eala said that the one-year contract signed by the 6-foot-10 Giles - approximately worth $15,000 a month or a total of P8.64 million for 12 months -- had been terminated due to what SBP officials said was his dismal performance the past month.
