The Hall of Fame award recognized Don Emilio’s contributions to the media organization and his continuing support to its ongoing programs.
The NPC, in a board resolution approved on October 11, 2019, resolved to include the Manila Bulletin’s patriarch in its hall of fame.
Manila Bulletin publisher and editor-in-chief Cris Icban Jr. accepted the award in behalf of the Manila Bulletin and the Yap family.
NPC President Rolando Gonzalo, in a letter to MB Chairman Basilio C. Yap, said: “We believe that it is about time that the media recognize Chairman Yap’s efforts and contribution during his lifetime, not only to the NPC but to our people and country as well.”
This is not the first time that the NPC had recognized the contributions of Chairman Emilio T. Yap.
On May 18, 1988, the NPC in a resolution acknowledged Don Emilio for his aid in the renovation and the maintenance of the club’s medical clinic, where NPC members and their families can avail themselves of free medical consultations.
On April 21, 1993, Chairman Yap was bestowed the NPC Presidential Award for his “philanthropic acts, benevolence, and concern for the welfare and advancement of the members of the journalistic profession.”
He was honored with the “Man of Our Times” citation in 1994 and 2002 for his efforts in helping victims of natural disasters and calamities.
On Sept. 17, 1998, the NPC recognized Chairman Yap as a lifetime member of the club for being a champion of press freedom.
The NPC also honored Chairman Yap with the “Karangalang Plaridel” award for his efforts to ensure the health of NPC members in 2002.
Among the guests at the NPC anniversary celebration were Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar and Major Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, the chief of Directorial Staff of the Philippine National Police.
