Rhap receives a PS3 present from Ellen
Like Charice Pempengco, young singing sensation Rhap Salazar received a gift from American TV host Ellen DeGeneres: a PS3.
Ellen gave it to the 12-year-old belter right after his outstanding performance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” last Nov. 17.
Rhap, a WCOPA (World Championships of Performing Arts) champion, sang his winning piece “All By Myself” which merited a standing ovation from the studio audience.
"Pinakabagong PS3 and ibinigay niya (Ellen) kaya tuwang-tuwa si Rhap," said Rhap’s manager, Kitchie Benedicto, in a phone patch interview aired on “Showbiz News Ngayon,” Nov.18.
"Oh, I can play this with my sisters and brothers," Rhap exclaimed in Ellen’s show upon receiving the gift.
Kitchie added: "Ang unang reaction nila, ‘He's such a sweet boy’ kasi hindi [lang] pala sa sarili niya kundi para [din] sa mga kapatid niya [ang PS3].”
Benedicto and Rhap's mom admit to have felt nervous while Rhap was performing on the top-rating talk show. They were afraid Rhap's voice might crack as he was not in his best element that night.
"Naku, naiyak-iyak kami ni mommy (Mrs.Salazar) kasi nag-standing ovation ang mga tao. Eh, talagang ninenerbyos kami kasi may sakit siya (Rhap), baka ubuhin na naman siya.
“Ang reaction niya (Rhap), hindi makapaniwala. ‘Mama, Tita Kitchie, totoo bang nangyari ito?’ Tawa nga kami nang tawa. It's so exciting," Benedicto said.
She narrated how Rhap impressed Ellen even during his rehearsal.
"Sa gitna ng kanta niya, tumawa siya [Rhap].Pagturo niya, si Ellen pala nasa harap na niya!Tumakbo si Ellen [while he was rehearsing] to see things. She kept on saying, ‘I like this boy!’
“Sabi ng mga production people, ‘You know, that's so unusual [because] she never comes out when somebody is rehearsing."
Just like Charice, Ellen discovered Rhap through YouTube. She paid for Rhap’s plane ticket and hotel accommodation so he could perform on her talk show.
It can be recalled that Ellen gifted Charice with an iPod Touch after the Filipino singer sang on her show in 2008. The gift replaced the iPod that Charice lost while on her flight to the U.S.
Rhap, in gratitude, gave Ellen a jewelry box made of coconut husk.
"May nakasulat doon sa card na binigay ni Rhap: ‘Dear Ms.Ellen. Thank you. My birthday wish last February was to be invited in your show so that I can sing for you. Thank you for making my dream come true.’"
