Gov. Maliksi eyeing House seat in Imus
Cavite Governor Ayong S. Maliksi is running for congressman in the newly-reconstituted Imus District.
Alda Lou Cabrera, head of Cavite Provincial Information Community Affairs Department, confirmed the congressional bid of Maliksi who is on his last term as governor of the province.
Cabrera said that Maliksi will proclaim his bid on Sunday in a simple ceremony at his farm in Malagasang, Imus.
In a phone interview, Cabrera also said Imus Mayor Emmanuel L. Maliksi would seek reelection in the town.
Both father and son would run under the banner of Liberal Party of Senators Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas, it was learned.
Cabrera made the confirmation on Friday, the first day of the filing of certificate of candidacies (CoCs) for election aspirants in the country.
Imus is the hometown of Maliksi where he was elected first as vice mayor (from 1980-1986) then mayor (1988-98), and congressman of the province’s 2nd District (1998-2001).
A report said that former Representative Gilbert Remulla is also vying for the congressional race in Imus. The young Remulla, a son of former Gov. Johnny Remulla and brother of 3rd District Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla, is running under the banner of the Nacionalista Party of Senator Manuel B. Villar Jr.
Imus, the capital, is now a lone district in Cavite and so with neighboring Bacoor and Dasmariñas towns under the approved province redistricting.
Congress approved the resolution increasing the number of the province’s legislative districts from three to seven.
With the approved measure, the first district is now comprise of Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario, and Cavite City, with Bacoor as second district; Imus as third district; and Dasmariñas as fourth district. Carmona, General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), and Silang comprise the fifth district, while General Trias, Alfonso, Tanza, and Trece Martires City, the sixth district. Alfonso, General Aguinaldo, Indang, Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez, Naic, Ternate, and Tagaytay City belong to the seventh district.
