Amidst threats of losing in his re-election bid, a Quezon City councilor said dissolving the smallest barangay in Metro Manila and merging it to two nearby barangays is advantageous to the public in the long run.

Councilor Jimmy Borres of the third district of Quezon City, in his proposed measure, said that Barangay Mangga should be divided and its detached areas fused with barangays Tagumpay and Dioquino Zobel in order for the city government to improve the delivery of basic services to the residents.

He said he filed the proposal even if it would cost him precious votes in the 2010 national elections, maintaining that it is “both beneficial to the affected residents and the city government.”

Borres noted that the filing of the controversial measure right after the 2010 elections never crossed his mind, saying that the proposal was filed at the appropriate time.
