Luzon teams hope to win first Liga crown
The Smart-Pampanga Buddies, Quezon Red Oilers, and Trace-Laguna Stallions enter the Smart Liga Pilipinas Conference III Super Leg beginning this Monday at the New Cebu Coliseum with one goal in mind – bring the National Championship to Luzon for the very first time.
The three Luzon-based teams hope to break the stranglehold of teams from the South that ruled the first two conferences of the country's premiere community-based league. The M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Niños won the historic first conference last year, followed by the Misamis Oriental Meteors early this year.
"The Superleg is an exciting innovation this conference for Liga. And we are just so happy the that the best from all over the country are represented in Cebu to determine who is truly deserving to win the Liga crown." said Liga President and CEO Noli Eala.
The Buddies under coach Allan Gregorio are enjoying their best conference so far, placing second overall after the 10-leg Tour Phase with 36 points, enough to earn an automatic slot in the Super Leg.
