Jeepney driver gunned down by unidentified assailant

By Minka Klaudia Tiangco A jeepney driver was slain by an unidentified gunman on Friday evening in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. Police identified the victim as John Gil Descallar, 38, resident of Phase 9, Package 7B, Block 33, Excess Lot, Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. The shooting incident happened in front of Infinity Establishment along the road of Ph. 9 Pckg. &. Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City at around 9 p.m. Investigation showed that the victim was in a heated altercation with an unidentified man when the suspect appeared holding a firearm of unidentified caliber. The suspect then shot Descallar on both of his shoulders, nape, and right upper back and fled on a tricycle towards an unknown location. Descallar was rushed to Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Police recovered five fired cartridge cases of caliber .45 and a deformed slug from the crime scene. Investigation is ongoing in hopes of identifying the assailant and the motive behind the crime, police said.
