Eduardo “Edu" Manzano has confirmed his breakup with his girlfriend of five years, TV personality Pinky Webb.

“Unfortunately, that is true," the VP bet said to reporters during the national convention of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party during which his partnership with former Defense chief Gilberto Teodoro Jr. for the 2010 elections was formally declared.

Manzano refused to give details on the breakup.

"I'd rather not comment on it. It's not relevant to the campaign. Let's just say...there are just some things that will not always go the way we planned it,” he said curtly.

Nevertheless, in his exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News, Manzano disclosed that the breakup was a mutual decision.

“We have opted to go our separate ways and we'll hope for the best,” he said.

Edu admitted that not telling Webb about his decision to accept the offer of the administration was one of the reasons for the separation.

Webb did not attend the Lakas-Kami-CMD’s convention at the Philippine International Convention Center Thursday.

It was entertainment columnist Ricky Lo who broke the news regarding the separation on the day Manzano was officially endorsed by the ruling party.

Manzano and Webb, daughter of former senator and professional basketball player Freddie Webb, are both co-hosts of ABS-CBN's morning news show "Umagang Kay Ganda."
