Voice for a Better Life

With political uncertainty and other crises looming around the corner, we need people who are “people-itical” versus political who would propel a better kind of nation building.
“Voice for a Better Life,” a one-of-a-kind special that airs on TV5 on Nov. 21 from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m., aims to serve as a mouthpiece for the youth with such people-centered missions.
The special is based in-part on the youth festival of the same title held recently at SM Mall of Asia. Paying homage to young heroes, the event featured 30 of the country’s top bands, including Aurora, Calla Lily, Cambio, Camerawalls, Chilitees, Coffeebreak Island, Color It Red, Delara, Duster, FMD, Heber Bartolome, Imago, Join the Club, Kjwan, Kenyo, Moonstar 88, Nicole and Carlo, Paraluman, Pedicab, Peryodiko, Radioactive Sago Project, Sugarfree, Syato, Tatsulok, The Dawn, The Jerks and Tropical Depression.
TV5’s “Voice for a Better Life” profiles the next generation of Pinoy movers and shakers. These include Illac Diaz, a social entrepreneur providing solutions for the homeless and destitute; Joseph Juico, maverick lawmaker; Pepe Diokno, international award-winning filmmaker; Vernon Go, young publisher of Pulp magazine; Agham Youth, advocates of science and technology for the people, and more.
Planned a few months, the thrust of the special has become even more paramount with the recent onslaught of environmental calamities such as typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.
And as more seemingly ordinary Filipinos step out of the shadows in heroic succour to their fellowman, “Voice for a Better Life” and its personalities assume a contextual dimension that’s more relevant than ever before.

Of the eight targets, those that concern the Philippines the most are the ones addressing the issues of poverty, health and education, and environment. The project will gauge how much more needs to be accomplished toward improving the quality of Filipino lives.
