PH Embassy in touch with Filipino tourists present when 6.7 magnitude quake hit Japan

The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo is now in touch with the second batch of Filipino tourists who were in Hokkaido when the magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit the Japanese island on Thursday.

Ambassador Jose Laurel said the second group of 40 reached out to the Embassy in Tokyo and said all of them are all safe.
Laurel said this latest group, and the other group of 26 Filipino tourists, are being given assistance in the arrangements of their respective flights back to the Philippines.
Laurel also informed the Home Office in Manila that the Chitose Airport, the main airport in Sapporo, and the Shinkansen train services are expected to resume operations today.
The envoy reiterated the Embassy’s readiness to provide assistance to affected Filipinos if needed.
Latest reports showed that at least 7 people were killed and several buildings were destroyed in a tremor that struck Sapporo at 3:06 a.m. on Sept. 6.
