The European Union is keenly monitoring the peace negotiations between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), even as it renews its commitment to pour in more assistance to the troubled region.

Ambassador Alistair MacDonald said the Philippines can expect another 2 million euros from the 28-nation EU this year.

“The European Union is following the (peace process) with great attention,” he said expressing anew the EU's confidence that the peace talks will soon be moved forward seeking to end the decades-old armed conflict in Mindanao.

MacDonald said they have provided “substantial” assistance to Mindanao, through its development projects benefitting thousands of poor people in the southern Philippines.
