The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is now monitoring the streets of Metro Manila through the use of available technologies.

NCRPO Regional Director Roberto Rosales said the cities of Taguig, Manila and Parañaque are currently hooked up with their “Metro Watch” system, a project installed at the Regional Tactical Operations and Intelligence Center (RTOIC) at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

The project has distributed 75 Blackberry phones to the police force of Metro Manila to be used for immediate verification of driver's licenses, vehicle plates, and standing warrants of arrest.

The RTOIC was inagurated last November 12 by President Arroyo and was attended by Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando.

“With the installation of this system, I expect that crime incidence in the whole of Metro Manila will be on a downturn.

The CCTV cameras are installed in crime-prone areas such as university belts, tourist belts, busy intersections and commercial areas,”said Rosales.

He added that other cities will be putting up their own monitoring system or upgrade any existing systems to broaden the scope of the Metro Watch project
