A cockpit gaffer shot dead a bet collector, a “kristo” in cockfighting circles, last Friday in Pasay City.

The fatality, Wenceslao Viñas III, 59, of 46-A Road, North Daang Hari, Bicutan, Taguig City, died upon arrival at the Pasay City General Hospital from multiple bullet wounds to the face and body. The suspect identified as Albert Margen, 44, of 104 J.P. Rizal St., Maypajo, Caloocan City, was arrested by responding policemen after the incident together with the .40 Taurus he used in shooting the victim.

Investigation conducted by case officer PO1 Christina Villanueva showed that the incident happened at about 1:40 p.m. the other day at the parking area of the Pasay Cockpit Arena located along Arnaiz Avenue, Pasay City.

According to barangay tanod Aldrin Buenaventura, 36, he was with his fellow tanod, a certain Augusto, when they chanced upon Viñas holding a piece of stone and Margen who was armed with a handgun having a heated altercation. (James I. Catapusan)
