Ebdane bares programs if he wins in 2010
Amending the Constitution through a Constitutional Convention and bringing food to the tables of Filipino families would be the first in the things-to-do list of former Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. when he wins the presidential race.
“I do not intend to stay beyond my six-year term… I do not intend to be a politician all my life. I will stay until June 30, 2016…I will just develop a potential successor and I will do my best to make him win,” Ebdane said as he vowed to sign a waiver that he would not be extending his term in office.
Ebdane, also the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, said the amendments in the Constitution, whether it’s presidential or parliamentary, should focus on his fellow countrymen in Mindanao so they would be given proper representation.
“Seldom do we have senators from Mindanao. If the (distribution of) senators is done through regional representation, five of our senators should come from Mindanao,” he said in an interview.
Although he lacks funds for his campaign, Ebdane is ready to run for president in the next year’s elections under the Lapiang Manggagawa party, now named Partido ng Manggagawa at Magsasaka (Workers and Peasants Party).
“I’m very sure any candidate for president will not reveal how much money he is going to spend. If we are walking, I’m sure we will get there,” he stressed.
Talking about his platform of government, he said his campaign battlecry is anchored on the country’s workers particularly the minimum wage earners and peasants, including the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), infrastructure development, food production, among others.
“Agriculture is critical to enabling self-sufficiency. We are committed to putting reforms in place, including extending the reach of irrigation, making irrigation fees affordable, modernizing post-harvest facilities, and constructing more farm-to-market roads,” he said.
On the issue of good governance, Ebdane said: “The PMM rejects and denounces corruption in all levels and activities of government. All who serve the people must be models of honesty and integrity. Those who engage in corrupt practices should be held accountable.”
