One Cebu to reveal presidential bet before month’s end
CEBU CITY — The ruling One Cebu Party is set to hold a general assembly before December 1 to formally announce its complete provincial slate and the presidential candidate it will be supporting for the 2010 National Elections.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who is a prime mover of the One Cebu Party also said she will announce her vice-gubernatorial candidate and board members who will be running under her umbrella during the general assembly
"Once we have chosen (the presidential candidate), we will stick with that candidate come hell or high water. We do not play around or bet on different horses," said Garcia, who added that Nacionalista Party standard bearer Manny Villar has sought out her support.
Garcia, who is the Provincial Chair of Lakas-Kampi, did not give any hint as to who the party will be supporting as its the presidential candidate.
"We will choose the right candidate who is qualified to run this country, that is, the candidate who has capability, vision, and passion to commit all that he has, all his capabilities to help push our country forward," she said.
The Cebu Governor has been courted by several presidential candidates for support and was, in fact, considered to be the running mate of administration party candidate Gilberto Teodoro. She however, turned down the offer to be Teodoro's running mate.
Garcia did not seem fazed that a number of political figures in Cebu have already joined the Liberal Party. Asked if the One Cebu Party might have difficulty in completing its slate, Garcia underlined that the party has become "stronger than ever."
"One Cebu is complete. The difficulty is not in looking for candidates but in choosing who would best fit the position," said Garcia, who will be running for her last term as governor of Cebu in 2010.
