CPP offensive justifies martial law extension – AFP Chief

By Francis Wakefield Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr., said the order of the Communist Party of the Philippines for its armed wing -- the New People's Army to “mount tactical offensives across the country” after Congress extended martial law in Mindanao for another year, further justifies the decision to prolong martial law.

The third martial law extension will start on January 1, 2019 until December 31, 2019. Madrigal said all units around the country are on alert to repel possible attacks from communist terrorist. Defense Secretary DelfinLorenzanasaid the threats of the CPP are no longer new. “With or without any order from the CPP-NPA, they have been hitting us," Lorenzananoted. "Our troops are always ready to face them," he added.
