Chinese fifth seed Liu Shaozhuo trounced Korean seventh pick Han Sung-hee, 6-1, 6-2, last Saturday to snare the PLDT-Smart ITF Women’s Circuit Week 2 crown at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The 19-year-old Shaozhuo proved too much for Han as the Tianjin native clinched her first ITF crown after competing in different international tournaments this year.

The victory, which earned her 40 ITF points, is expected to improve her rankings from 677th while earning the lion’s share of the $10,000 total cash purse.

Liu had a tougher time going to the finals, beating Week 1 runner-up and fourth seed Yoo Mi of Korea, 6-3, 6-3, in the semis, top pick Elodie Rogge-Dietrich of France, 7-5, 6-4, in the quarters, compatriot Zhang Nan-nan, 6-4, 6-0, in the second phase and Japanese qualifier Haine Ogata, 6-2, 6-0, in the opening round.

Meanwhile, the Korean tandem of Han Na-lae and Yoo Mi thumped Filipino bet Czarina Mae Arevalo and German Katharina Lehnert, 6-0, 6-3, Friday afternoon to rule the doubles event.

The unseeded Han and Yoo went through the proverbial eye of the needle to beat third pick Gally De Wael of Belgium and Rogge-Dietrich, 6-4, 6-3, RP’s Anna Christine Patrimonio and Riza Zalameda, 6-4, 6-3, and top seed Beatrice Gumulya of Indonesia and Han Sung-hee of Korea, 6-1, 1-6, 10-5.

Meanwhile, the qualifying rounds for the Phinma International Junior Week 1 start this Sunday at the same venue.
