DAVAO CITY -- The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) 11 has assured the public it is now safe to go back to the shores after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) lifted the tsunami advisory.
OCD 11 information officer Franz Irag said people can now enjoy their swimming in the beaches and go back to their homes near the shores.
"Safe na nga mamalik tong mga nagpuyo sa daplin dagat sir ug kadtong mga nangaligo or nagbakasyon sa mga beach resorts (People who live near the shores and those at the beach resorts now can now return there)," he said.
Irag, however, said all local disaster risk reduction management councils are still urged to continuously monitor their area because there might be aftershocks to happen.
"Wala pay reported damages to infra or house and casualties sa nahitabo na linog (There were no reported houses, infrastructures and casualties related with earthquake)," he said.
Meanwhile, the Davao Oriental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMO) is still monitoring all of its towns near in the shores after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake has struck the province, particularly the municipalities of Governor Generoso at 11:39 Saturday morning.
Provincial information officer Karen Lou Deloso said a team from the PDDRMC has immediately conducted information dissemination after the earthquake in the coastal barangays in Mati City, cautioning residents to take precautionary measures and observe the abnormal movement of water. They were also told to stay alert in case of evacuations.
She said the DRRMC in the municipalities are also doing their own information dissemination in the coastal areas.
Deloso said there were no damages reported yet when the quake hit the province however they are continuously monitoring and gathering information.
She said the people of the province are advised to stay calm and refrain from disseminating false information which may cause panic among the people.
