CEBU CITY – Defending champion Misamis Oriental pulled off another fourth quarter magic to beat the Trace Laguna Stallions, 84-78, for its second straight win in the Smart Liga Pilipinas Conference III Super Leg Tuesday at the Cebu City Coliseum here.
Down by seven points, the Meteors went to top scorer Patrick Cabahug in the last five minutes to spoil the Stallions' debut in the week-long event that will decide the conference's national champion.
Cabahug top-scored for the squad of coach Jun Noel with 21 points despite a 7-for-18 shooting, his former Adamson teammate Melvin Mamaclay buried 5-of-7 treys for 19 points while Eder Saldua added 16 points and eight rebounds.
The Meteors, who earlier beat the Pampanga Dragons, 60-52 the other day, joined the idle M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Cebu Ninos as the only teams who have yet to lose a single game in this tournament sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
They can hike their record to a perfect 3-0 card in this Super Leg supported by Smart, Accel, Nolten, Burlington, Biofresh, Calcium Free, Gatorade, San Miguel Beer, Air21, Casino Alcohol, Omega Pain Killer, M Lhuillier Kwarta Padala, and host Cebu councilor Yayoy Alcoseba if they beat the Quezon Red Oilers, being played as of presstime.
