PNP to intensify contact-tracing among personnel

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will intensify its contact-tracing operations among its personnel amid the continuous rise in the number of policemen positive for COVID-19.

Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, deputy chief for administration and commander of the Administrative Support for COVID-19 Task Force (ASCOTF), said they will maximize the two testing centers that the PNP currently has for its more than 220,000 personnel that include civilian employees.

“We have to conduct more tests among our personnel in order to effectively address the spread of the virus on the PNP ranks,” said Eleazar.

Data showed that 8,390 PNP personnel have tested positive for coronavirus and 27 of them died due to complications from COVID.

Seven-thousand, nine-hundred fifty-seven have recovered and there are 406 active cases.

These active cases are in isolation facilities and medical facilities for those with serious cases.

Eleazar said that there were days that only less than 100 PNP personnel were subjected to COVID-19 testing daily when the testing capacity of the two PNP testing centers is 420 a day.

“We are currently looking into it, on why only a few personnel were being tested. Our focus is to conduct more tests in the coming days, seven days a week,” said Eleazar.

He said this would come with the updating of contact-tracing for people who came in contact with PNP personnel who tested positive for the virus.
