DUMANJUG, Cebu – At least two persons were killed in this town due to torrential rains and flooding triggered by typhoon “Urduja” that hit Cebu and other areas in the Visayas early this week.

Authorities said a certain Reynaldo Zozobrado was electrocuted after he accidentally hit a live wire of the Cebu Electric Cooperative at the onset of the heavy rain and severe flooding in the town on Wednesday.

SPO1 Reynaldo Sala of the Dumanjug police said that the victim died of electrocution.

Sala said that a branch of a mango tree hit the electric wires causing them to fall on the victim’s house.

While Zozobrado was trying to secure the members of his family, he accidentally touched the live wire. He was brought to the Barili District Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

The second fatality was identified as Modesto Pasiluna, 13, of Barangay Bitoon, who was found floating on the river.

It was reported that the victim was asked by his parents to gather firewood, but he never came back. Residents of the villages of Uling and Tinaan in Naga town also panicked as floodwaters started to rise on Wednesday night following the overflow of a river triggered by “Urduja.”

Trees were uprooted, houses were destroyed, and vehicles were washed away as floodwaters hit the streets and residential areas on Wednesday night.

However, the municipal government has not yet released the amount of damage in the area.

No person is missing or killed in the flood, said Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong.

Floods were also reported in some areas in Carcar City and the town of
Barili on Wednesday following days of torrential rains caused by “Urduja,”
said the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council.

A resident identified as Lucila Gabunada said she was so shocked to see floodwaters sipping into her house as she was aware of the damages brought about by the flooding in Luzon lately.

Gabunada said she immediately grabbed her three children and ran towards the village hall for safety.

While a car owner, who requested anonymity, said he was already inside his house with his wife and five kids when he noticed a commotion outside.

When he looked through the window of the second floor, he saw his white car being washed away by floodwater.
