In view of the Eid’l Adha holidays in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) has reminded employers of the pay rules.

Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said private corporations, offices, agencies and entities or establishments (except retail and service establishments regularly employment less than 10 workers) operating within the ARMM, should observe the following pay rules during the regular holidays in that region on November 27 and 28.

If the holiday falls on the employee’s regular workday:
— If unworked, the employee is entitled to 100% of his or her regular daily rate \
— If worked, [the employee] is entitled to 200% of his [or her] basic wage for the first eight (8) hours and, for work in excess of the 8 hours, to an additional 30% of his or her hourly rate on the said day;

If the holiday falls on the employee’s on the employee’s rest day:
- If unworked, the employee is entitled to 100% of his or her regular daily rate.
- If worked, the employee is entitled, for the first 8 hours, to 200% of his or her daily rate plus 30% and, for work in excess of 8 hours, plus 30% of his or her hourly rate on the said day.

Roque said all Muslim employees working outside of the ARMM shall be excused from work during the two-day observance of the Eid’l Adha without diminution or loss of wages or salaries.

Eid’l Adha is one of the greatest events in human history not only for Muslims but also for adherents of Christianity and Judaism. It is a day where believers commemorate the great sacrifice that Patriarch Abraham gave in fulfillment of God’s command. Its memory should not be centered merely how it happened but rather on what it symbolizes today. The occasion should produce people ready for a big leap of faith and make their own sacrifice for the sake of God and country.

Eid’l Adha was held simultaneously all over the world. Muslim residing in Manila held their Eid prayers at the Manila Golden Mosque, and others proceeded to the Luneta Grounds fronting the Quirino Grandstand for the said prayers.

Meanwhile, the AIMS Association of Integrated Muslim Sectors, a SEC-registered NGO, participated in the Eid’l Adha prayers yesterday.

They also launched a Thanksgiving Party for Senator Manny Villar and Atty. Adel Tamano at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan.

They were joined by 13 barangay chairmen and 55 barangay kagawads at the thanksgiving rites.
