DPWH completes almost half of Cagayan Valley infra projects

More than 500 out of 1,076 programmed infrastructure projects in Cagayan Valley were implemented under the region’s 2020 infrastructure program, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Tuesday.

Under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA), DPWH Regional Office 2 received an allocation of P15.23 billion for a total of 1,076 projects that are composed of 151 roads projects, 47 bridge projects, 80 flood-control projects, and 798 other infrastructures.

“To date, 513 out of the 1,076 projects were accomplished while 531 are ongoing, and 32 will soon start construction,” the department said.

Among the implemented projects were the constructions, improvement, and rehabilitation of roads, bridges, flood-control structures, and school buildings.

A total of 73.65 kilometers of national, secondary, and tertiary roads under the DPWH Regional Office 2 infrastructure program for year 2020 have been constructed, improved and rehabilitated.

According to DPWH Regional Office 2 interim Director Loreta Malaluan, the completed road projects with combined cost of P2.68 billion are composed of 21.18 kilometers of national road, 19.87 kilometers of secondary road, and 32.60 kilometers of tertiary road.

Aside from road projects, the construction, improvement, and rehabilitation of 425.4 lineal meters of bridges and a total of 40 flood-control structures which include dikes, seawalls, river control, revetment, river walls, and drainages mains were also implemented.

A total of 34.74 kilometers of tourism road improvement projects under Tourism Road Infrastructure Program amounting to P821.51 million; 28.56 kilometers of roads leveraging linkages of industry and trade (ROLL IT) amounting to P935.55 million; and 19.85 kilometers of farm-to-market roads amounting to P241.62 million were also constructed. 

Other built projects include 11 school building projects with 33 classrooms under a P94.86-million fund, seven disaster-related rehabilitation projects costing P28.96 million; and four Tatag ng Imprastruktura para sa Kapayapaan at Seguridad (TIKAS) costing P54.27 million.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said that these new and improved roads are “providing socio-economic impact in the region by facilitating faster, safer, and easier access of locals to health, education, tourism, government, and social services.”
