CEBU CITY (PNA) — Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia said the provincial government will help the family of injured Cebuano boxer Z “The Dream” Gorres, both financially and in kind.

Garcia said she and her brother Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, 3rd district) will also assist the boxer in their own personal capacity. Rep. Garcia asked the media not to ask about the specific amount. The boxer has a wife and is a father of four. He is also a friend of the governor’s son Paulo. Gorres’ wife Datches is set to visit the Governor.

Earlier, Gorres’ wife said her husband will undergo therapy for four to six months. ALA gym star Gorres is on the road to recovery, showing remarkable improvement in his condition after an emergency brain surgery.

He collapsed after his victory against Colombian fighter Luis Melendez last November 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Although he was declared winner of the 10-round bout, he collapsed on his way out of the ring and was rushed to the University Medical Center Hospital.

The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) has also passed a resolution, extending financial aid for his medical treatment. PB Member Victor Maambong, who represents the sixth district, sponsored the resolution.
