Flight attendant pours heart out on FB as PAL announces big layoff

A PAL Express (2P) flight attendant shared on her Facebook account, Tuesday night, the tough decision that she had to make amid the Philippine Airlines's (PAL) persisting financial difficulties.

Ashly Arellano Himor described the situation as both "difficult" and "heartbreaking."

"Leaving behind 2P by choosing to voluntarily resign was painful because I truly loved flying the skies, no matter how difficult it was sometimes. What made it more difficult was saying goodbye to new found friends who eventually became family," she wrote.

Himor's post came ahead of the expected announcement on Wednesday that the flag-carrier will be letting go of 2,300 workers in mid-March. This represents a whopping 30 percent of PAL's total workforce.

As it is widely known, the COVID-19 pandemic severely affected the travel and tourism industry as Filipinos avoided the risk of infection in the absence of a vaccine.

Despite the painful move, Himor chose to be positive as she braces for life post-PAL.

"While the pandemic is a time for endings, it can also be a time for new beginnings. During this time, I’ve been trying out new things and constantly pushing myself out of my comfort zone. And soon enough, I will be returning to doing what I love most: flying the skies, hopefully as a pilot," she said.

"Although I’m still heartbroken that I had to say goodbye to being an FA, it’s also time to welcome the many great things that are waiting for us in the future. So, when you encounter an ending in your story, remember to face it, accept it, and know that it marks the beginning of a new chapter in your life.#PALaban ✈??❤," she further wrote.
