Davao eyed as fruit wine capital of RP
DAVAO CITY – The Region 11 office here of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI 11) is urging entrepreneurs to venture into fruit wine making as this city nurtures a liberal supply of resources used for this internationally known product.
Cesar Ledesma, chair for Consumer Action for Sustainable and Healthy Lifestyle (CASH-L) under DTI XI, said this city has one of the best-tasting potable water and home of high quality fruits such as the mangosteen and durian.
“Actually, all kinds of fruits may be used to make wine,” Ledesma told the Manila Bulletin Wednesday.
Ledesma, who claimed to be a wine-grower since the Martial Law era, said fruit wines are more nutritious compared to that of the ordinary wine which may only contain synthetic alcohol.
Calling it an organic product, he said fruit wines carries medicinal properties and nutrients since it undergoes natural fermentation process.
CASH-L Network, a sustainable lifestyle group conceptualized by DTI 11, has recently announced that this city may likely bid the “Fruit Wine Capital of the Philippines” for its advantage of having natural resources needed for the wine making.
“The city has one of the best-tasting potable water and various fruits are grown abundantly here,” Ledesma said.
