Meralco upgrades NAIA supply reliability
Utility giant Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has calendared the implementation of a key project intended to improve power supply reliability at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and proximate establishments.
This shall entail installation of various facilities, including 14 poles, inside Airmen’s Village in Villamor in Pasay City.
In a press statement, Meralco vice president and sub-transmission services head Rustico de Borja noted the project is meant “to assure reliable power to critical establishments in the area like the airport, hotels and condominiums among others.”
He added that the scheduled works are necessary to improve power service delivery and to guarantee that demand for electricity by customers in the area would be met.
The company indicated that they have already secured barangay clearance and construction permit from the City Government of Pasay City.
“The safety of these Meralco facilities has also been verified by health and safety inspectors,” De Borja stressed.
He similarly emphasized that when the project is completed, “it will not only be these establishments that will benefit from the said project, but indirectly also the thousands of Filipinos employed by them and the local economy as well.”
Ensuring reliable power supply, primarily for the country’s major airport, is critical given the function that it keeps for the well-being of travelers as well for the establishments operating in and around it.
Following the grant of its rate adjustment via performance-based tariff-setting scheme, Meralco noted that it gained more leeway in implementing projects crucial to improving its service and expanding its distribution network.
The company has also been afforded an improved cash flow after suffering from years of financial lowdown due to various judicial rulings ordering it pay-back to customers.
