Samsung ST1000 Taking good photos, then sharing them

Capturing precious moments is one thing; sharing them right away is another because usually it takes a bit of time to share pictures taken from a digital camera. The process is simple but somehow sharing them “instantly” takes a while. Now, you can share pictures as quickly as you take them with the new Samsung ST1000 digital camera with built-in WiFi, bluetooth and GPS receiver.

Samsung ST1000 12.2 megapixel camera sports a shiny, brushed blue metal finish with a touch of silver bordering the right side. Though a bit heavier compared to other “slim” counterparts, the ST1000 is chic and classy inside and out. It is equipped with a mighty 5x optical zoom lens for clear and clean images and HD video recording.

A 3.5-inch LCD display occupies the entire back surface of the camera. With resolution of 1152k pixels, images appear clear and sharp. The 3.5-inch touchscreen responds quickly to even the lightest touch thanks to its Smart Gesture user interface with built-in orientation sensor. The icons are clear and easy to navigate. Accessing basic functions are easy and relatively quick. You can actually get away without reading the manual.

What makes this nifty gadget entirely different from other digital camera is its connectivity. As mentioned previously it has a built-in WiFi that allows you to e-mail photos directly from the camera. All you need is a wireless access point. On its on-screen QWERTY keyboard just type in the e-mail address or choose from the addresses stored in the camera’s address book; choose the photos or videos you want to send and off they go. You can likewise upload photos and videos to your favorite social networking sites like YouTube and Facebook without actually connecting to a PC.

Since ST1000 is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compliant, you can connect your camera to devices such as gaming systems, digital picture frames and other DLNA compliant devices.

If you want to send pictures to a mobile phone via bluetooth, the usual search for another bluetooth device is done; pair them up, input the password, choose the image and it will be automatically sent off. Pretty neat and pretty fast. Using the bluetooth 2.0, ST1000 will automatically resize the image to best fit the resolution of the receiving screen. It is worth noting that when you send images wirelessly, these images will be re-sized to a smaller resolution. Still, images come out clear and sharp.

ST 1000 is equipped with advanced GPS technology for geo-tagging. It will display the location where you took the photo; very handy when reviewing those photos at a later time. Samsung ST1000 is not only about connectivity, it also has features well advanced compared to other digital cameras. One of which is the smart auto feature that automatically adjusts to outside factors such as motion, color and brightness. No more shots that are too bright or too dark and out of focus. With the Smart Auto, pictures are perfect.

Worried about blurred images caused by trembling hands? The ST 1000 has Advanced Dual Image Stabilization that that combines optical and digital images that automatically corrects these “shaky” problems.

A favorite feature of mine is the “beauty shot”. This feature actually makes you look good in all your photos. It allows you to remove blemishes, wrinkles and other imperfections making the subject look really good and flawless. Just access it through one of its editing options and “viola” picture perfect!
Other features worth bragging includes one touch shooting, auto focus, smart face recognition, smile shot, blink detection and red eye fix mode. (Len Amadora)
