BACOLOD CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in an encounter with the Army 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The Army has yet to identify the casualty.
Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde), said troops were providing disaster response operations in relation to severe tropical storm ‘’Paeng’’ when they received a report regarding extortion activities of the NPA in Barangay Planas.
The 62nd IB responded and while they were approaching Sitio Mambog, Barangay Planas, at least 20 armed men believed to be members of the Central Negros 1 (CN1)-Komiteng Rehiyon Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor (KR-NCBS), fired on them, triggering a 30-minute firefight.
Six hours later, another encounter between the fleeing NPA rebels and the 62nd IB occurred in Sitio Ilihan, Barangay Buenavista that lasted for five minutes.
No casualty was reported on the government side in the two clashes, according to Pasaporte.
Pasaporte said the Army discovered the body of an NPA rebel in Barangay Buenavista on Sunday morning, Oct. 30.
The Army recovered in the second encounter site a 12-gauge shotgun, a .45 caliber pistol, hand grenade, two backpacks with personal belongings, and subversive documents.
