In the world of fairy tales, there’s a mischievous flying boy who refuses to grow up named Peter Pan.

In the modern day music scene, there’s Lenka who channels the well-loved boy from Neverland by creating her own dream-like, infinite world, Lenkaland.

This singer-songwriter from Down Under----who recently paid the Pearl of the Orient a five-day visit to promote her self-titled debut----said she and her high school best friend used to think that "when we grow up, our hearts will die."

"But then we did grow up. And I realized it didn’t mean we can’t stay excited about the world.”

She related this before performing her finale, “We Will Not Grow Old,” before what she called her “lovely” Filipino fans at the Skydome, SM North EDSA last Dec. 13.

Preserving her inner child was further cemented for Lenka via a manifesto she and her boyfriend made, which later on contributed in her creating a happy, poppy brand of music and crafty, child-like visual art--as seen in her album covers, concert posters, and websites.

“I set out to make uplifting, happy music because it's more difficult to write a happy song than it is to write a sad song,” Lenka said. “The contrast between the negative lyrics and the positive melodies makes the song more interesting.”

So whether she’s singing about life’s complexities (“The Show,” “Trouble Is A Friend”) or love and its longings (“Don’t Let Me Fall,” “Like A Song”), the Aussie actress-turned-musician makes a conscious effort to inject a tinge of emotional strength in her songs, enough to cheer a lonely heart.

The nature of her danceable ditties has also earned Lenka a young set of fan base, including kids from five years old and below, to whom she feels she has a "responsibility."

“When it comes to writing lyrics for my next album, I’m conscious of the fact that I have fans younger than five years old. I know that my three year-old neighbor in L.A. who likes my music is not gonna get a song that’s about female oppression or something like that. It’s not really gonna make sense to her.

“I am aware of it and I want to put the right message to people. The more real the music is, the more fans respond to it. I wanna keep that alive,” she related.

Although she is not mindful of comparisons with fellow brunette singers such as Lily Allen, Katy Perry, Regina Spektor, and Sara Bareilles, she hopes that people will see their uniqueness.

"I am hoping that people will find another way to describe me and my music, other than just comparing us,” said she.

The Los Angeles-based singer, who also once dabbled in acting and was a protégé of Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett, professed to learning passion and presence from the latter, whether it’s on a theater stage or a concert stage.

“[Cate] definitely taught me about presence on stage, which can cross over to any kind of medium. And in general, just loving and respecting your craft and doing it for the right reasons. I transferred that into music and try to give it the respect that it deserves,” she said.

Lenka caught international mileage, after her songs were featured in popular TV series including “Ugly Betty,” “90210” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

She will soon offer fans a universal love song that’s sung in different languages.

“I’ve been wanting to do that for a number of years actually. I love languages and I love the idea of globalization and connection between people that don’t speak the same language but are united through music. I’ve written it, and it’s a cute, puppy love song,” she enthused.

Lenka is blocking some days off in her career calendar this holiday season to visit her home country.

“I don’t really want any material stuff because I’m always traveling. I always want time to be with my family and friends, and that’s what I’m doing. I’m taking a month off in Australia. That’s kind of my present to myself,” she beamed.

And she will surround herself with joy, like that of a child who never grows old.

Lenka’s 11-track album, which features the new single “Knock Knock,” is distributed by Sony Music Philippines.
