SS501’s Kim Hyun-joong chosen as Asia’s best male star
Kim Hyun-joong, leader of K-pop boy band SS501, was chosen as Asia’s Best Male Star at the Yahoo! Asia Buzz Award 2009 held at the Hong Kong Convention Center on December 14.
It was a night of triumph for SS501 as the boy band also received the Asia’s Best Group Award.
Kim, who enthralled fans with his portrayal of Yoon Ji-hoo in the Korean drama series “Boys over Flowers,” also won awards as Top Buzz Korean Artist and top male artist chosen by netizens.
The winners were chosen based on search results on the Yahoo! portal in Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Taiwanese actress Lin I-chen was named Asia’s best female star at the ceremony.
Two days before the ceremony, SS501 held a concert at the Hong Kong Expo Arena. They are scheduled to fly to Tokyo, Japan this week for a Christmas show.
In November, SS501 won the best official soundtrack (OST) award at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in Korea for their song “Because I’m Stupid” which was used in “Boys over Flowers”.
This year, SS501 released their second mini-album “Rebirth” in Korea. They also embarked on an Asian concert tour.
SS501 debuted in Korea in 2005. The members of the idol group are Kim Hyun-joong, Heo Young Saeng, Kim Kyu Jong, Park Jung-min and Kim Hyung Joon.
