The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City has set up a quarantine facility for personnel who might be infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Monday, Aug. 23.
BuCor said the isolation facility called “Site Leo” was set up last Aug. 23 by the Directorate for Health and Welfare Services (DHWS) “for personnel who shall undergo a prescribed quarantine period due to COVID-19 infection.”
“As the increasing number of new variants detected as well as the number of COVID-19 infections, BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag has been continuously employing measures to contain the surge and prevent the risks among BuCor personnel,” it said in a statement.
C/CSupt. Henry N. Fabro, MD,CFP, IDS, Director for Health and Welfare Services, said the isolation area has been readied for occupancy.
Aside from “Site Leo,” Bucor set up last year “Site Harry” as isolation facility for NBP inmates.
BuCor Deputy Director General Gabriel P. Chaclag had said that none of the inmates at the NBP have received, so far, vaccination against COVID-19.
“Dependent kasi tayo sa vaccine program ng LGUs kung saan matatagpuan ang prison camps (The prison camps are dependent on the vaccination drives of local government units where they are located),” Chaclag explained.
