Pinoy iPhone Apps
First, this is not an exhaustive list of iPhone/iPod Touch applications made by Filipinos. These are just some of the apps that I know were made by Filipinos. I am listing them here in no particular order. :)
1. Enjoy Philippines. Found in the Lifestyle category, this application is best paired with an Enjoy membership card that you can buy from http://enjoythebest.ph. The iPhone App is a free tool that gives you an idea of where you find discounts that you can use with the card.
2. ZZips Philippines. Filed under Reference category, this application is useful for those who frequently send items via courier or post. The application lists all the zip codes in the country. What is best is that you can have a short-list of your frequently used codes. No need to memory, right? And oh, the app is free. :D
3. WalletWhiz (WalletWhiz Lite). Filed under the Finance category, WalletWhiz and the free Lite version, provides you with a tool to manage your finances. I find this useful if you are on a tight budget (specially when travel or for those students on stipends). Costs only USD0.999 from the App Store, why go Lite (free) if you can buy the app, right?
4. DeskWhiz. From the WalletWhiz company, this application, found in the Lifestyle section, “turns your iPhone or iPod Touch into a portable digital photo frame, with built-in digital clock display, music playback and slideshow functionality.” Whilst definitely not as useful as WalletWhiz, in my opinion only, of course, I have yet to try DeskWhiz. At USD0.99, wouldn’t hurt to try it, right?
5. SMS Template. To Filipino SMS addicts (we’re not called the SMS capital of the world for nothing, right?), using a template to send those frequent SMS to friends and family definitely makes it easier (and faster, too). Found in the Utilities category, this application allows you to store your SMS messages and provides a way to simply select (and automatically copy) and paste it to the iPhone’s SMS application. Due to the limitations of the iPhone SDK, this USD0.99 utility can’t directly interface with the SMS application. However, this is the next best thing to using a template!
6. QuickPing. If you are the type who frequently updates your Facebook or other social network sites’ status, this USD0.99 Social Networking app is for you. No, it does not let you read your friends’ status or tweets, but it gives you a quick and easy way of updating yours. No need to fire up several applications just to update different sites, QuickPing will do it for you. The catch is that you need to have a Ping.fm account.
7. SabiNila. Based on the application name alone, you’d know that it is Pinoy-made! :) This free news application aggregates Philippine news and ranks it based on some traffic-based algorithm. If you want to check exclusively Pinoy news, this app is for you!
As I have said earlier, this is not an exhaustive list of all apps made by Filipinos. If you are a Filipino iPhone/iPod Touch application developer, let me know so I can feature you in the future.
