4.1 magnitude quake jolts Davao Oriental

By Mike Crismundo BUTUAN CITY - A 4.1 magnitude earthquake jolted Davao Oriental Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 6:38 a.m. on Jan. 10. The epicenter was plotted 149 kilometers (km) southeast of Governor Generoso town, Davao oriental province, it said. The earthquake had a depth of 28 km, the state agency said. Earlier, a 4.0 magnitude tremor was also registered at 3:56 p.m. on Wednesday and its epicenter was traced 153 km of nearby Tarragona town of that same province, with a depth of 17 km, it also said. The two tremors were tectonic in origin and no aftershock and tsunami alerts were raised by the state agency. The regional office of the Southern Mindanao Office of Civil Defense and Davao Oriental disaster risk reduction and management council there reported no damage or injury.
