AFP provides New Year cheer to victims of pre-Christmas fire
In a gesture of compassion to victims of the big fire that struck a residential area in Bangkal, Makati City two days before Christmas, the Armed Forces of the Philippines - Civil Relations Service (AFP-CRS) held a gift-giving activity to bring cheer to those rendered homeless by the tragedy.
CRS commander, Brig. Gen. Francisco Cruz said the AFP decided to “continue the yuletide celebration in a meaningful way by offering its services to the victim residents.”
In recognizing the need for assistance and provisions of the more than 158 families who were left homeless by the blaze, the CRSAFP conducted a gift-giving activity and entertainment in Purok 2653 A. Bonifacio St., Bangkal, Makati City.
“In close coordination with officials, the activity intends to help in meeting the basic requirements for food and clothing, as it also endeavors to bring a smile and lighten the hearts of the inhabitants,” Cruz said.
“The essence of our joyous celebration must not be lost even to those who had been struck with tragedy. Despite the ruins, we would like to let the fire victims know that people are ready to help and that there shall always be a reason to stand and to start again,” he added.
“For us in the CRS, this is our way of sharing and giving hope to the residents and motivate them to persist,” he said.
Cruz noted that for this year, CRSAFP has been active in the delivery of assistance to communities affected by calamities. During storms Ondoy and Pepeng, AFP teams led in penetrating flooded areas in Metro Manila and nearby provinces for the distribution of relief goods.
“Our mission is to be of service to our country and people, hence, we gladly choose to close the year in the same intent of serving the people we vowed to protect,” Cruz said.
