Stray bullets killed 13 people during the New Year’s Eve celebration in the Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela (Camanava) area, authorities said Saturday.

Dr. Manuel Mapue II, Camanava head epidemiologist, said based on their monitoring, as of 6 p.m. of Jan. 1, 2010, there were already 13 fatalities of stray bullets from guns fired indiscriminately by New Year's Eve revelers.

Caloocan City had the most number of such incidents, with 10, Mapue said. The three other cities – Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela – each recorded one incident.

Meanwhile, 242 firecracker-related incidents were recorded in the Camanava.

The Department of Health (DoH) has already declared that the number of victims of firecrackers was lower than last year's figure.

However, the number of victims of stray bullets this year increased, the DoH said.
