The chief of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in San Juan City on Tuesday said that registration of new voters in the city reached to only 222 since the extended voters’ registration started last Dec. 21.

San Juan City elections officer chief Ma. Lisa Torres said that based on their count, only a total of 222 first-time voters registered since Dec. 21. She, however, said the number does not include the number of first-time voters who went to the local Comelec headquarters in San Juan during the last day of filing to register and be able to vote in the May 2010 elections. She said the extended voters’ registration in the area went smoothly.

“Based on our count, a total of 222 new voters went to our office and registered. However, hindi pa kasama sa bilang ang mga nagpunta during the last day of filing (Dec. 29) para sila makaboto sa susunod na halalan,” she said. “Maayos ang pagpaparehistro dito sa area namin at wala naman kaming na-encounter na problema.”
